STACEY JACO WILSON
I am an African American Artist and Global Art Educator. My art has transformed over the years and reflects the many experiences life has given me and my passions. Inspired by the oceans and seas of the world with Native American and Celtic influences. My art installations celebrate collaboration and the bringing together of many artists in a unified art piece. My journey as an artist has been greatly influenced by my ancestors. I come from a family of patchwork quilt makers - the Jaco’s, from Salisbury, Missouri, USA. In 1990, my great Aunt Edna gave me some of our family heirloom quilts along with a pile of patchwork squares. The quilts and squares were over 100 years old. My Aunt Edna challenged me to carry on the Jaco tradition. Since receiving those timeless treasures, it has been my quest to find a way to incorporate the concept of a patchwork (joining together of different pieces of art in a unified piece) not only into my art and teaching but also into my way of life.
